Artist Statement
My name is Charlene, and I'm sixteen years old. I began crocheting at thirteen, but my love for crafting, drawing, and all things creative has been with me since kindergarten. When I make my own plushies and toys, it’s incredibly comforting—like a piece of my heart is woven into every stitch. I often think to myself, Wow, I made this! What truly touches me is knowing that my crochet animals are out in the world, sitting on desks or shelves, bringing a little love to someone’s day. Over the years, I’ve grown so much in my craft, and I’m proud of my progress (even as I keep striving to improve!). My crochet friends are usually made from soft Bernat Blanket or Bernat Velvet yarn, and I create everything from tiny keychains to giant dinosaurs. Every project I start reminds me how grateful I am to be doing this in my teenage years.
